Food Plant: Rosaceous trees especially Crataegus (Hawthorn), Malus (Apple). Egg: Lower surface of the leaf Mine: August - October (the larvae vacate the mine in October/early November and are said to overwinter (Emmet, 1988)) Notes: A gallery usually along leaf-edge, frass brownish, leading to a blotch. Larva whitish, head and ventral spots dark (this distinguishes it from S.hybnerella, which has a pale head). An early instar larva is shown.
