the larva has a dark head

Food Plant: Rosaceous trees especially Crataegus (Hawthorn), Malus (Apple).

Egg: Lower surface of the leaf

Mine: August - April

Notes: A gallery usually along leaf-edge, frass brownish, leading to a blotch. Larva whitish, head and ventral spots dark (this distinguishes it from S.hybnerella, which has a pale head).
