Food Plant: Crataegus (Hawthorn)

Egg:  Usually upper side of leaf

Mine: July, October

Notes: The first half of the mine is filled with brown frass and the early gallery is broad. The frass is later coiled and the larva is yellow (as shown). S.crataegella has a thinner initial gallery (and the larva is green). Mines starting in the petiole (such as this one) are harder to name without seeing the larva12
