4.008 Stigmella glutinosae (Stainton, 1858)
< back
vacated mine

Food Plant: Alnus glutinosa (Alder)

Egg: Underside of leaf

Mine: July, September - October

Notes: A gallery with frass partly dispersed, but sometimes in a thin line (as S.alnetella). The moths must be bred through to distinguish between this and S.alnetella. The larva has a brown head and a pale brown rectangular plate on the ventral surface of the prothorax. It is a darker yellow than the larva of S.alnetella and this larva also lacks the distinctive prothoracic spot of S.glutinosae. The larva vacated the mine on 24.ix.2015 and the distinctive prothoracic spot enabled identification.

Data: 24.ix.2015, Hull, South-east Yorkshire, VC61
