Notes: Initially forms a small full depth mine on the leaf and then overwinters beneath a small white spinning attached to a twig. In the spring it feeds on the leaves It pupates in a dense white cocoon attcahed to a twig. in a web, which may contain two or three larvae. Formerly Paraswammerdammia lutarea. The mines can resemble those of Bucculatrix bechsteinella but the clear exit gallery is more sinuous (those of B.bechsteinella are more angular) and the mines tend to be more numerous in a leaf (the larva shown is making a second mine in the leaf) and not necessarily associated with a vein axil (the larva shown is making a second mine in the leaf) .
