Food Plant: Betula spp. (Birch) Mine: Summer Notes: The older part of the mine is characteristically a red-brown colour and the mine contains little frass as the larva ejects it through a slit. The larva pupates in the mine in a disc structure. Mine shown on Betula verrucosa. The larva is pale in colour and the prothorax has apale plates with a median sulcus. Ventrally the prothorax has teh typical Heterarthrus 'collar', with further spots on the meso and metathorax. The anal ring (bottom photo) shows the fine denticulations.
