FRASS EJECTED THROUGH THE SLIT

 

Food Plant: Betula spp. (Birch)

Mine: Summer

Notes: The older part of the mine is characteristically a red-brown colour and the mine contains little frass as the larva ejects it through a slit (shown by the red arrow). A large blotch mine is formed. The larva pupates in the mine in a disc structure. Mine shown on Betula pendula.
