76 Stigmella carpinella (Heinemann, 1862)
< back | map | next >

Food Plant: Carpinus betulus (Hornbeam)

Egg: Underside of leaf, at a rib

Mine: June - July, September - October

Pupa: In a cocoon on detritus

Notes: An early gallery filled with frass in an interupted line, later leaving clear margins, with the frass less dense and scattered. The mine is broader and shorter than that of S.microtheriella. The mines can appear very similar. The larva is a dull yellow, head pale brown. An uncommon leaf miner
