Food Plant: Prunus spinosa (Blackthorn) and occasionally Prunus japonica (dwarf flowering cherry) , Malus (Apple) spp. Elsewhere: Betula (Birch) spp., Chaenomeles japonica (Quince), Cotoneaster spp. Crategus monogyna (Hawthorn), Cydonia oblonga (Quince), Mespilus germanica (Common Medlar), Pyrus communis (Pear), Sorbus.

Egg: under the leaf cuticle

Mine: July-October

Notes: Forms blotch mines from an initial gallery and frass is extruded from the mine as shown. The larva pupates in a cocoon beneath the leaf surface (as shown).
