black/brown blotches are made

Food Plant: Populus sp. (Poplar) and Salix sp. (Willow)

Egg: on the leaves

Mine: summer

Notes: It makes a characteristic, middle-brown, oviposition mark, like leather, mostly near the margin of the blotch. The emerging larvae bore into the leaf epidermis making irregular blotches, which turn brown/black as they age. The larvae need to be bred to determine their identity. The mine above is on Populus tremula and is taken by transmitted and reflected light.
