35.116 Scrobipalpa obsoletella (Fischer von Röslerstamm, 1841)
< back

Food Plant: Atriplex spp. (Orache) such as Atriplex glabriuscula (Babbington's Orache); Possibly Chenopodium spp (Goosefoot ) as this is a host in Europe

Mine: May-October

Notes: A stem miner found on the strand line. Forms a whitish frass which may protrude through a small hole in the stem. It pupates in the stem ( in a white cocoon. The pupation site was found to be in a node, but may be anywhere in the stem). Langmaid (1995) found larvae could feed within a fruit of Babington's Orache, or more commonly two fruits were spun together. Mine on Atriplex hastata (Spearscale). Widely distributed in coastal regions, with some inland records.
